Harmen

The Green Oasis is a very special place in Charlois. Upon entering, all of the garden’s volunteers sat down to a freshly made soup to warm up and then to roll up their green sleeves again in maintaining their own little garden at the Groene Oase. The garden is embraced by the neighbourhood and counts as many as forty volunteers. Besides being a place to work, many people also like to share their stories with each other and that is what makes the garden so unique. People really look out for each other here; the garden is therefore an instrument for the social side of people.

From August 2021 to January 2022, a group of students worked on a concept for Hart van Zuid with a focus on leisure. They did this from and around our lab located on Zuidplein. While they were working, they discovered that they wanted to give something extra back to the community. They decided to go out on the streets and shoot beautiful portraits of entrepreneurs and residents of the neighbourhood. This portrait is one of the portraits from the series: ‘Local heroes from Hart van Zuid’.
